The Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP) is a language proficiency test designed to assess the English language skills of individuals aspiring to immigrate to Canada or seeking Canadian citizenship. Developed by Paragon Testing Enterprises, CELPIP evaluates candidates' abilities in listening, reading, writing, and speaking, with a specific focus on real-life communication skills.

Test Format

CELPIP offers two main versions - CELPIP General and CELPIP General LS (Listening and Speaking). Here is an overview of the two versions:
CELPIP General:
Listening (47–55 minutes):

Scoring

CELPIP provides scores on a scale from 1 to 12 for each language skill (listening, reading, writing, and speaking). The overall CELPIP General score is an average of the individual skill scores. The CELPIP General LS score is based on the listening and speaking sections

CELPIP Frequently Asked Questions

General Information

The IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is an international standardized test that assesses the English language proficiency of non-native speakers.

IELTS is jointly owned and managed by three organizations: British Council, IDP Education, and Cambridge Assessment English.

There are two main types of IELTS tests: Academic and General Training. Academic is for those applying to universities, while General Training is for immigration purposes or work experience in an English-speaking environment.

CD-IELTS is a less common format where all parts of test are delivered on computer except speaking which happens one-on-one.

Test Format

There are 40 questions in the IELTS Reading test, with various question formats across three passages such as Summary, True False Not Given, Yes No Not Given, Flow Chart and Diagram and MCQs.

There are also 40 questions in the IELTS Listening test, with different sections and question types such as Fill In The Blanks, Maps, Diagrams and MCQs.

The IELTS Academic Writing test has two questions called Graph Writing Task 1 (20 Minutes) and Essay Writing Task 2 (40 Minutes).

Similar to Academic Writing, the IELTS General Training Writing test has two questions Letter Writing Task 1 (20 minutes) and Essay Writing Task 2 (40 minutes).

The Speaking test is conducted one- on-one with a trained examiner and involves an interview format with various sections.
